Islet Productions
Islet productions was conceived by Elizabeth McEachern in February 2006. The mandate is to produce shows that deal with relevant social issues in a humorous way that people can relate to.
The first show, How Sweet It Is, was produced to educate people about diabetes. Liz McEachern has had type one diabetes for many years. It was written, performed, and directed by Liz for the London Fringe Festival. Later, it was performed at the Staircase Theatre in Hamilton and at the Canadian Diabetes Association Youth Advocacy Workshop in Toronto.
Bruce Hunter is directing the current production for the Toronto Fringe Festival. He also has type one diabetes.
“Islet” comes from “Islets of Langerhams” the cells found in the pancreas that produce insulin. These cells stop working in type one diabetics. There have been experiments performed in recent years to inject islet cells into diabetic patients in an attempt to reduce or even stop diabetes symptoms. “Islet” is also close to the word “Islay,” a Scottish island (or islet) where the McEachern clan originated.
